SAP Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS SAP?

A key aspect of the FFA National Curriculum is the implementation of the Skill Acquisition Program (SAP) to perfect and accelerate the skill development of identified players at the critical ages of 7 to 12. Murray United FC is an FFV approved licensee to deliver the SAP program to ensure that players are equipped to transition into the NPL pathway.

HOW DO I JOIN BRIGHT RED SAP?

Players born between 2006 and 2011 are eligible to register 2018 Bright Red SAP program.

The Bright Red program is based on four separate school terms per annum. Registrations for Term 1 in 2018 open in December 2017. Players must re register each new school term.

Players can register for selection trials by completing the Jotform – https://form.jotform.co/72992876491879.

HOW MANY PLAYERS ARE SELECTED PER SQUAD?

The club anticipates limiting the positions available to a 12:1 player coach ratio to ensure high standards of coaching are maintained. Players are assigned to a group for the term after the first week of each term based on the assessment of their current level of ability by the Bright Red Coordinator.

Players therefore may be required to participate in an age group above or below their actual age group.

The categorisation of players will result in a more enjoyable experience for young players as more advanced players will become more challenged and lesser developed players will have an improved opportunity to enjoy the game and enhance their skills against players of a similar standard. Players are expected to meet acceptable behavioural standards and are subject to not being offered a position in future terms if behaviour does not meet expectations.

IS THE PROGRAM OPEN TO GOALKEEPERS?

Yes, the program does cater for goalkeepers. The modern goalkeeper needs to be competent in each of the four core skills. There is no specific goalkeeper training offered as part of the SAP program.

IS THE PROGRAM OPEN TO GIRLS?

Yes, the program does cater for girls. Where there are not girls only squads, girls are eligible to trial with the boys. In some cases girls may be offered the opportunity of a position in the boys group, subject to approval from the SAP Coordinator and Technical Director.

WHEN AND WHERE IS TRAINING?

Term 1 of the 2018 Bright Red SAP program will be conducted on Monday and Wednesday nights at MUFC training facility at Cadell St commencing 29 January.

One group will train from 4:30pm to 5:30pm and the second group will train from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

The program cost is $200 (inc. GST) per term inclusive of coaches’ fees, equipment and facility hire.

Bright Red SAP uniform is also required to be purchased from the club. The minimum each player will need: 1 x Training Shirts, 1 x Training Shorts, 1 x Training Socks. Previous SAP players are able to use the same club apparel from the 2017 SAP program.

Full payment will be required upon acceptance of a position in the program.

WHO ARE THE COACHES?

Gonzalo Freddi is the Bright Red SAP Coordinator for Murray United FC and is responsible for delivering the program in accordance with the FFA National Curriculum. All SAP Trainers working within the program are FFA accredited and trained to deliver the SAP methodology provided by FFA/FFV.

CAN I STILL TRAIN AND PLAY WITH MY LOCAL CLUB?

Yes, players will still train and play with their local club each week however it is an expectation that players attend two SAP training sessions weekly to benefit from the development of participating in the SAP program. If there is a clash with your club training, it is expected that SAP is prioritised. Where possible, training for the SAP program is scheduled on non-traditional training nights to avoid potential clashes with club training.

WILL THE SQUADS PLAY COMPETITIVE GAMES?

The SAP program is about the development of the four core skills. At the end of each training cycle (typically 6-8 weeks) a Gala Day is generally conducted to allow players the opportunity to apply their developing core skills in a non-competitive game environment with other SAP licensed clubs.

The club is also anticipating giving the opportunity for Bright Red SAP players to play together in tournaments across Victoria.
